And when they are afraid, Americans tend to withdraw into their island, in the conviction that all threats are external. Promising to make America great again, Donald Trump has successfully interpreted the myth of insularity, which has its roots in the country’s history. In order to understand the contemporary United States, one needs to resort to a geopolitical analysis, identifying the remote causes of recent events and envisaging future scenarios. This involves not only the United States, but indeed the rest of the world as well.
