EMILIO GENTILE

The Origins of Fascist Ideology

1918-1925

"The Origins of Fascist Ideology" is a pioneer work, first published twenty years ago by Laterza. Emilio Gentile was indeed the first who discussed the problem of the ideology of fascism from a historical point of view, breaking a kind of taboo existing at that time in historiography. Afterwards other studies followed, from those by Pier Giorgio Zunino to those by Zeev Sternhell, but Gentile’s work hasn’t been surpassed at all; on the contrary, it has become a classic reference text.

Emilio Gentile is Professor of History of political parties and movements at the University of Rome.
