Psychology of Multimedia Learning

E-Learning and New Technologies

The transition to a "network culture" entails acquisition of a good deal of information and skills, and therefore a learning process, for which the term "e-learning" (electronic learning) has been coined. It applies to a wide array of contexts, including on-line training courses and the great number of services that can be accessed with a computer. Even a simple act such as visiting a website, in fact, requires a learning process. As a consequence, cognitive psychology plays an essential role in developing multimedia presentations and procedures for the electronic transmission of knowledge. This volume offers a synthetic overview of this novel and significant field of study.

Contents: Introduction - 1. New Technologies and Electronic Learning - 2. A Standard Psychological Model of E-Learning - 3. Multimedia Learning - 4. Long-Distance Learning - 5. Learning via Television - 6. Surfing the Internet: An Example of Active Cognitive Processing - Bibliographical References
